FRANKS GEEKDOM SATURDAY
A Dice A Day

Today I would like to address a topic very near and dear to the typical players heart; the topic of dice.
Dice are the single object that epitomizes gaming, nearly every game uses them from board games - to collectable card games*.
To a gamer dice are meat and drink.
The icing on the cake.
For some it's even a reason to get up in the morning, though we tend to look down on those gamers.

The amount of dice available are astounding.
There are the poly-hedral dice: coming in 4's 6's 8's 10's 12's 20's and even 30's and 100's; but even these dice have a variety of shapes, col0rs and materials.
There are dice made from bone, metal, antler, and of course plastic.
Every colour that you can imagine also: from the standard colors of the rainbow, to metalic, clear or translucent, to shimmer dice that change color in the light.

Of course gamers have their superstitions about dice too.
Some will only face the dice a certain way on the table, others will never roll thier dice but on a designated surface.
Others perform rolling rituals and such when selecting dice for an evening of gaming.
I have a habit of kissing my dice before certain rolls.
Of course this is all a load of bull, dice will roll how they were designed to roll despite all these little quirks.
They are random, and nothing more..... or are they?
I'm going to say they are.

Why all the fuss though?
Why do gamers pride and obsess over dice?
Well, dice are the wild card for most rpgs. They are the one constant with all characters.
A bad die roll can mean anything from having a character who is a simpleton, a pansy, a klutz. To being consumed by the dragons flame and having to roll up a new character.
In more conventional board games dice often determine who will win.
Roll low a few times and your buddy's a head of you on the board, you losing.

Now dice are of course just implements of a silly game (or games).
But as hobbies go, gaming isn't a bad one... well it can be socially, but it is a fairly creative and inventive hobby, even if most people consider it a great waste of time.
But then, how much time is wasted watching sports (most people don't play in any competitive manner)?
Or crafts?
Sure you might have something after your done doing the craft, but it isn't usually something you need or is neccessary.
All hobbies are a waste of time.

*Most collectable card games use dice as counters, to represent units of life, creatures, or an effect of some sort.

It's a bright sunny day today.
A bit of a nip in the air.
There women, god yes women, wandering around the town about their daily business looking absolutely radiant.
I love women, I love radiant women, and I absolutely love radiant women that will give me the time of day (which are most, because people are usually pretty cordial when asked the time).
Now if I only I could go that extra step and ask them other questions like: "Did you know that you can see the stars in your eyes?" or "Wanna breed" which would fit in more with my ogre mentality.
There is something absolutely entrancing about the other sex.
Something fasinating about the way they smile, the way their eyes sparkle, their laughter...
Though admittedly, they don't find me nearly as entrancing I've noticed, I am a bit like Shrek, but with out the scottish accent.
I'm uncouth at times, rude, crude, care nearly nothing about my appearance.
Grumpy at regular intervals, usually starting when I wake and going until I get home at night.
I sometimes lack tact, oh it's true.
There are instances of gassiness... we won't get into that.
I'm lazy, that's for damn sure. I am a beast of physic, objects at rest want to stay at rest.
Now, I know there are women out there that are just like me... but think for but a moment; a woman like me... that would be an aweful pairing. Two for the price of one.
I tend to be passionate about things, now imagine all my faults, passion, and emotions all rolled up in one being with breasts and a once a month mean streak.*
Yeah that's what I thought.
So you see, just isn't going to happen I think.
I think.
Especcially when you tally in the geek factor.
Now I'm not a social outcast (suprisingly), but I do not consider myself a fully normal member of society.
But once people find out your a geek, they make assumptions about you.
I have one thing going for me though...
Geekdom is spreading, like wild fire, it's becoming more and more acceptable to do certain geeky things.
And all the geeks out there are raising more geeks.
So that's in my favor, in about fifty years....

Ah women.
There is this absolutely enchanting red head that walks by the store here at least once or twice a week.
I wonder if she's really as beautiful as she looks?
Hmm, we'll see.

*For those women who read this and would like nothing more than to strangle me for some of my comments; let me first state that I am trully sympathetic to the menstrual cycle, I DO understand that for many it is painful, uncomfortable and simply unpleasant in general. I don't want to come across as snide, rude, or typical. The comment was meant as levity and nothing more. Also, I would never walk up to a woman I don't know and use any pick up line, women I know yeah depending on the amount of libations I have consumed previous, but never to a stranger.

Well, well, well....
If IT isn't Wednesday.
Hi, Wednesday.
How're you doing?
What's that?
Oh, yeah.
Well the same to you buddy.
...the same to you.

It feels gloomy out today.
It's not really overcast, but there is a haze in the air and so it feels overcast.
I don't mind the gloominess.
It's sort of refreshing.
Now, I saw on one of the many internet weather reports that I see that it's supposed to be windy today.
Well, there was a bit of a breeze a little earlier, but nothing to be frightened over.
If I'm at home the wind doesn't phaze me.
You see I live in a hole in a ground, but unlike the hobbits hole, mine is damp and musty.
I like it though, it's a nice little apartment.
I just need to get more storage and shelves.
Because I have stacks of things everywhere.
I've nearly half decided to moved the one book case in my room out to the living room.
Now for those of you who have been to my apartment, you're probably asking yourself "where's he going to put it?"
Well I'll tell you.
You can stack those things around like crazy, especcially if one is larger than the other.
Of course you have to do it right still then. Because if you don't, they tumble over.

Well, the weekend is over.
I missed another Geekdom, sorry.
I was too busy geeking out this weekend to actually write a geekdom.
Funny how that works.
There was no time on friday, apparently I'm running a game every other week on friday night.
Dogboy (for those who know him) will be in it, as will a few regular geeks that I know.
Saturday the opportunity never came up.
I actually worked when I was at work on Saturday.
Funny that.
That evening was spent geeking out.
Last game with a fellow in the game session with us, he's headed back into the army.
I know, I know; why would you go back into the Army? I was thinking that too.
Some people like it, it's for them.
I reek of geek
I'm going to be spending alot of time in the scalding hot shower with lye this week to get the stink out.
Other than that my weekend was uneventful.
Yeah, I lead a pretty boring life.
I'm starting back up on Fitzlephisch this week.
Full rewrite, should be fun.
There's alot of stuff that's going to go.
Sadly.
I hope those of you I sent it too have a chance to read it.
Let me know what you think.

It's Monday....
I hate Monday (not as much as wednesday though).
