I see the photographs of Saddam Hussien and I don't see an evil dictator, or a tyrant, or a grave threat to the world. I see an old man who's broken and disheveled, who has no hope left. I pity him. That's right I pity him, I pity him for what he was, and I pity him for what he's become. Here's a man who, I think, has known very little joy in his life. He did evil things, this can't be denied, but ultimately who I'm I to judge him, who is the U.S. government to judge him. His own people are the closest thing in the world to those who can really judge him. Those that should judge him, those that have the right to judge him, are no longer living. So the U.S. citizens can hate him, idividuals in Iraq can hate him. But I feel no hate.

Only pity.
