response

i tried to post this as a comment to Kevins review, but for some reason i can't get it to log in correctly on his comment page... so here it is.


interesting. i did feel that some of the staging felt forced in spots, including the scene between Paloma and Conchita, Santiago and (Megan's character the name fails me) are the two most prominant ones, and though it didn't bother me as much then, now that you point it out it is odd that nobodies that concerned about Marela after the rape.
the dialect bothered me. i don't know if it's indicated in the script or not, but most of the actors did not appear to be comfortable with using the dialect. John particularly disliked it, and because it had been pointed out to him (some what cruely) that he had the worst one he become very concious of it; one of the reasons he let it drop so frequently through out the show.
i do know, from conversations with John, that the cast new they had been given something special with this play. that they had in their hands, and on their shoulders a great piece of work. they knew it, but they soon realized that the director didn't really know it. and so while they were asked to portray the directors vision and interpertaion of the show, they tried -i think- to bring more to it than that. i have not yet been disapointed with the acting yet this year. the director may have let the audience down, but the actor's surely didn't. i can pick one actor (and many cases more than that) from each of the main stage and independent shows that just blew me away. and this show was no different.
you do have me curious now, i'm going to have to get a copy of that play (or ask to borrow John's now that he's finished).
