WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

Fortunantly for us, our we are safe... not free any more, but safe.
with habeas corpus gone, we need not worry any more.
with it gone, we need no longer worry about any of our rights.
Kieth Olbermann has a funny little commentary about it.
Orwell was off about 40 years, i think we've still got another 8 maybe even twice that... how many of the following quotes from 1984 can you apply to today?

"In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality was tacitly denied by their philosophy."

"And when memory failed and written records were falsified—when that happened, the claim of the Party to have improved the conditions of human life had got to be accepted, because there did not exist, and never again could exist, any standard against which it could be tested."

"People simply disappeared, always during the night. Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten. You were abolished, annhilated: vaporized was the usual word."

"And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. 'Who controls the past' ran the Party slogan, 'controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'"
