what to write, what to write?
i originally had the idea to post about the book i'm just finishing up. but then it occured to me most of you simply won't give a shit.
so, what's the point.
my perspective of history has been changed beautifully by this book.
i'm a believer.
but really it has no effect on how i conduct my daily life.
so why mention it in any more detail?
i could post about the other book i just started, but i'm not as excited about it to want to post.
yet.
that could change, it is a pretty damn interesting book.

i could post about work.
but that's pretty boring.
the only highlight is a beautiful vivacious co-worker returning from the summer.
and now that it's been mentioned, there's nothing further to report.
i could post about how much i like the new tool album.
but i figure you'd probably have gathered than from me posting the lyrics a month or so ago.

it's pretty boring really.
no exciting movies to discuss.
the books, have fallen flat, and work is (or should be) a taboo topic for polite conversation (though strangely enough i'll gladly talk politics or religion.
funny that one.

i hope all is well.

CHINA!

You should post about the books you're reading. I'm always interested in such topics. In fact, I even belong to a fabulous book club. Last night we discussed racial issues and, in particular, First Nations & Residential Schools in Canada. Very interesting. Some day you and I should have a contest to determine whose day job is more boring.

I'd like to know about the book you just finished as well.

I'm reading a few books that have fascinated me all summer. They are...

- Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin (Abe Lincoln biography)

- the short stories of Ernest Hemingway

- In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

- Gene Wilder's autobiography (a fun, quick read. He was big back in the 70s, when I was in high school).

- Michael Chabon's A Model World and Other Stories. Chabon's great. He wrote Pulitzer winner The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, one of the most fun reads I've ever had.

- The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan. This is a fun-to-read science book about sex in plants and how evolution has altered the plant landscape over history.

- The End of Faith by Sam Harris. Very timely. Kinda scary. Treatise on how religion is the major factor in most conflicts in the world. He spends a lot of time on Islam.

Oh - and UNTIL I FIND YOU by John Irving, just now out in paperback. This is one big, long, fun book.

What's the name of that Gene Wilder autobiography? I love that guy! He was a hoot to watch, in pretty much anything he played (helluva lot more fun as Willy Wonka than Johnny Depp, but I also credit/blame Tim Burton for part of that)...he just kind of dropped off the face of the earth after Gilda died...

Oh, yeah, and Frank? Any book that gets you excited is worth posting about, no matter whether or not you think any of us care. Good books are like good restaurants...a lot of people stumble across them, but the recommendation of a friend often is what leads us to give them a try.
