so... call me calous, if you will, but i'm really rather indifferent that Anna Nichole Smith is dead.
it's hard hearted, i know.
it's sad for the family, don't get me wrong, and her friends.
but really why is the media fawning over this story?
it was a drug overdose... yeah, so?
it might be a conspiracy to kill her for her money.... uh yeah.... so?
let's not forget how she got this money, shall we?
let the rich have their conspiracies against each other, let them jocky for a place at the table greed, they'd only be worse than everyone else by being successful at it , yet again, who cares.
if she'd been a tremendous talent, somebody who made a mark on culture, and not simply pop-culture, maybe i could see it. i could understand why people outside her inner circle would give a shit.
most people know her for three things:
posing in playboy.
marrying an octogenerian for his money
that ridiculous television show on E that was really more sad than it was entertaining.
when all is said and done, she'll be yet another tragic footnote in the history of entertainment.
seems so fickle.
this culture we've dubbed "pop"

pop-culture's relevance is: 1) extremely fleeting, you are an anomoly because you follow pop-culture and understand it. 99.9% of the individuals out there who embrace pop-culture do not do this. for them all that's important is the here and now of it. what happened 10 years ago, 5 years ago, hell even 1 year ago may not have a lasting impact on their lives.
2)It is (pop-culture) something that is fully an invention of our modern era, post-industrial revolution. another major world conflict something similar to world war ii (or dare i say worse) will probably put a permanent end to pop-culture for many generations (if not permantly)
3)It's main point of relevance is economic. it's something business's can exploit for their profit. keeping it in flux and constantly changing is incredibly beneficial as it keeps their coffers lined with coin.
now living in a capatalist economy as we do, the niche that pop-culture has is fairly important. it's one of those things that really drive home our economic well being as a country. and due to it's nature, is something that these same corporations can transport to other countries (especcially less developed ones) and exploit those populations interest in all things U.S., making more money.
You did a great job on Mike's Senior Project tonight, Frank. Enjoyed the hell out of it. You are one fine actor.
